About The Blogger
Hello! I’m Courtney. I’ve loved books for as long as I can remember. My literary love affair began with Little Golden Books (who else remembers The Poky Little Puppy?); continued with the Nancy Drew mystery series (I used to stare at the cover of The Hidden Staircase with awe and wonderment even after I finished reading the book); I felt seen and lost my mind for Judy Blume’s books (Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret and Tales of A Fourth Grade Nothing will forever hold a special place in my heart); reading works by Shakespeare taught me about poetry and plays which eventually evolved into an affinity and reverence for the theater; delving into the classics gave me a view of milestones within literary tradition (F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby is sparkling, devastating and transports you to an iconic 1920’s party), and also how some writers solidified their place in history because their books were rebellious and dissented from beliefs of their time (Harper Lee’s Pulitzer-prize winner To Kill A Mockingbird addresses issues like segregation, race and inequality with levity, compassion and poignant beauty); and continues with modern books that captivate and sometimes even show that courage can come through tears (Colleen Hoover’s It Ends With Us is brave, gripping, agonizing, yet ultimately rewarding). Books have entertained, validated, challenged, enriched, and taught me about life.
A close second to my love of literature is the culinary world. Discovering new food and drink recipes has evolved from a casual hobby to an outright passion. I am proudly an Ina Garten super fan who consumes all of her content and then tries to channel her in my kitchen (one Halloween I even dressed up as her, with my sweet and easygoing husband agreeing to be my Jeffrey).
So when considering starting a book blog, it seemed natural to me to have a culinary component in it. I love the idea of pairing or creating a drink to accompany a book. I see it as way to bring the pages to life. Whether or not the characters themselves indulge in a cocktail is irrelevant. The drink is chosen based on a book’s components like its setting, theme, plot and tone.
I look forward to reading and raising a glass with you!
